BRCTH offers 8-week sessions in the spring and fall, and two weeks of adaptive, recreational day camp.  We currently operate without access to an indoor arena, so lessons are somewhat weather-limited.  Classroom space is available where we can provide “theory lessons” and small group activities for our students.

Our 2019 8-week SPRING SESSION will begin April 8th and will continue into early June.  Lessons are offered weekday afternoons and on Saturdays.   Tuition for the 8-week session is $480.  The  $200 deposit must be received before we can hold a place on the scheduling roster for you or your child.   The balance of the tuition is due 30 days prior to the start of the session.  For families  requiring financial assistance, we offer installment plans and may be able to help locate funding sources or offer partial scholarships. All students are taught individually or appropriately paired in semi-private lessons.  Lessons include, when appropriate, grooming and basic horse care in addition to riding skills.  Lesson plans are individualized for each student; instruction is sequential and often presented in game format.  Attempts are made to integrate IEP and other educational/health goals and objectives into our goal setting and lesson planning.  Our certified instructors consult and collaborate with education and health care professionals whenever possible.  We also utilize the  3-level TRAV Rider Achievement Certificate Program which documents student progress towards mastery of lesson-related tasks and serves as tool for monitoring and communicating student progress.

The center offers Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) as well as the more traditional therapeutic riding experience which uses riding instruction to address individual student’s strengths and deficit areas. EAL is focused more on psycho-social learning and stresses observation of horse behavior, utilizing un-mounted ground exercises to build trust and self-esteem.

Our 2019 FUN WITH HORSES DAY CAMPS are scheduled for the weeks of June 24th and July 8th.  We served children, age 7 to 12, during these half-day, adaptive, recreational camps which are open to children, age 7 to 12, with special needs.  This will be the 7th year we have offered day camp; the staff to camper ratio is greater than 2:1.  The format includes therapeutic riding instruction, basic horse care and knowledge, mounted and unmounted games with horses and a full hour of art each day.  Staff includes PATH-certified instructors, a certified art teacher, and more than a dozen trained, caring volunteers.

Our 2019 8-week FALL SESSION will begin September 3rd and continue into early November.

BRCTH students will have the opportunity to participate in horse shows, in particular, the Annual TRAV Horse Show at the VA Horse Center in Lexington, VA which will be held this year on October 19 and 20.  Seven BRCTH students participated in the show in 2018, winning many ribbons in Equitation, Dressage and Games classes!  Everyone, including parents and siblings, had a wonderful time watching and cheering on the other 80+ riders from all over the state and NC.

In 2019 and beyond, BRCTH will be looking into expanding our services to include school and group home programs, community service and vocational opportunities for adults with developmental delay,  services for wounded veterans, and programming for seniors in our community while continuing to increase the numbers of students who are individually referred for services.   Please contact us, or pass along our contact information, if you know of an aforementioned entity that could benefit from our services.  Or, download our brochure!
