About

Blue Ridge Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship  (BRCTH) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization which was founded in 2006 to serve persons with disabling conditions in the northern Shenandoah Valley.  We are a member operating center of the Therapeutic Riding Association of VA (TRAV) and of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH) which provides operating and accreditation standards, and certification for therapeutic riding instructors.

BRCTH funds its operations through individual and corporate in-kind and monetary donations, civic and foundation grants, fundraising events and student tuiition.  BRCTH is an all-volunteer organization, excepting one part-time instructor, including administration, management and instructor staff.

The Center provides programming for individuals with disabilities and those who are “at risk”.  We serve adults and children from age five.  In order to provide these services to the community, we rely upon a dedicated team of volunteers.  See our Volunteer page for more information.

BRCTH is located at 644 Lime Marl Lane, Millwood, VA 22646 in Clarke County.  The facility features a large sand arena, rolling pastureland, a functional, well-appointed barn with a large tack room/meeting space.  Our herd consists of three ponies, Honey, Rusty Raindrops and Skipper, and two horses, CJ and Hershey.

Executive Director and Instructor, Marjorie Youngs, M.Ed.has been involved in the therapeutic riding industry for a more than 20 years.  She has a Masters in Special Education, works as an Educational Diagnostician, and is a certified PATH Instructor Mentor.  All of our instructors are certified through PATH.  The program is also served by PATH Equine Specialist, Babe Romine, who will be a licensed psychotherapist by year’s end; Tiffany Neel, who is beginning her second year with us; Karen McMullen, a PATH Equine Specialist and special education teacher; Megan Donavan, new to BRCTH this spring.  The position of Volunteer Coordinator is open at this time.

BRCTH is served by a Board of Directors who bring their talents and dedication to the work of supporting and governing the organization.
